WELCOME NEIGHBOR AND VIVI VEJO

A few years ago I considered officializing Welcome Neighbor into a Registered International Club, but it was complicated and not worth it at the time.
But as time went by and I found myself taking up the task of organizing the International Community Fair for the whole expat community in Rome, I found
that it was necessary to present our organnization with a proper Constitution and Registration.
On September 11th 2009 a group of Professionals and myself got together with a Notary and an Accountant and founded the Vivi Vejo ONLUS  Association, with
the aim to work with local authorities and the City of Rome Administration to bring important projects to schools, to improve the quality of life of all
citizens with  particular  attention to students, expats, elderly people and disabled people.
It will be the Vivi Vejo constitution which will be presented to our local Authorities in September 2011 to request Patronage for the International Community
Fair.
For this year, we plan to raise enough funds to buy four navigators for the Blind People's Association (Unione Italiana Ciechi), to buy computers and voice
synthetisers for our computer courses and to organize and finance  a two week study program in English at the Canadian National Institute for the Blind
on Lake Joe, in Muskoka, Canada, for a small group of members of the Blind People's Association.
As you can imagine, we are going to have to work really hard to raise funds and the ICF won't be taking place until next September.
I would kindly ask all of you to help in this project, to come up with ideas for sponsorships and, whenever you'd like to advertize a business, an activity,
on the Welcome Neighbor mailing list, which by now reaches thousand of people in Rome and outside, to make a donation payable to Vivi Vejo ONLUS.
You may reach the Welcome Neighbor website from the Vivi Vejo site too and soon  this will be translated into English.
OUR PROJECTS FOR 2011:
- Literary Contest and Art Contest for all schools in the XX Municipio
-  Women in the working world: bringing working women  to local highschools to talk about their experience and the reasons for their choices
- AMA VIVIVEJO: Ecological Sundays with kids, to clean up the trash in the streets, plant flowers and cut grass
- Setting up a page for kids to write in our magazine Il Vivi Vejo
- Study Summer Camp for the Blind
- Italian Conversation for foreigners
- Computer courses for elderly and blind people
- Coaching in Highschools (for teachers and students)
- Sponsoring the TEARCA ONLUS, a Theatre Comany with Blind actors, to present "Condominio Occidentale", a show almost totally presented by blind actors,
to give a strong message to people: Who are the new poor?  What those who see refuse to see and those who can't see, see better.
- ICF 2011
Please forgive the long e-mail.   We need all the help we can get, to make our area a little more livable and civil.
